Why do I need to brush and floss regularly?

Brushing and flossing regularly is vital to remove plaque from teeth.

Plaque is the soft deposit that accumulates on your teeth from food and drinks you consume. If not removed by regular brushing & flossing, plaque can harden and adhere to the teeth. It is then commonly referred to as "tartar."

Tartar cannot easily be removed by brushing and flossing alone and often requires a trip to the dentist for a professional cleaning appointment with our hygienist.

What happens when proper treatment is lacking?

At The Smile Shop, we follow the recommendations set by the American Dental Association that say you should floss once per day and brush twice per day for two minutes. When combined with regular visits to your dentist, this routine will help prevent the plaque from turning into tartar.

Routine care is important, but so are proper techniques!

But frequency is only half the battle! The proper brushing and flossing techniques are also essential. That’s why we take time each appointment to educate and ensure you are using the best methods for a clean and healthy smile.  If you want to know more, call us today!
