I understand how scary and overwhelming it can be to move to a new city. Between packing and unpacking your belongings, starting a new job, getting the kids settled into a new school, and learning your way around, it doesn’t feel like there’s much time for anything else.

Once you feel like you have room to breathe, you’ll have time to focus on finding medical and dental care. So, if you’re new to Durham, NC, I invite you to visit my dental office, The Smile Shop. We provide comprehensive dental care to you and your loved ones in a comfortable, modern setting.

My dental team and I have over 20 years of combined experience in the dental field, and we’re dedicated to providing an exceptional patient experience. Please keep reading to learn more about the city I call home and what to look for in a Durham cosmetic dentist.

Things to Do in Durham and the Surrounding Area

One of the things I love about Durham is that there’s always something fun to see and do. No matter what you enjoy, Durham has it! Here’s a sample of what you can expect from your new city:

  • Durham Central Park — This 5-acre park is home to the Durham Farmers Market, various concerts, movies, food trucks, and more! You can rent event space for a wedding or class reunion, let your kids play at Mount Merrill, the interactive play area, or show your skills at the skate park. Durham Central Park also boasts a free-pick, public edible garden where you can enjoy fruits, nuts, and herbs during warmer weather.
  • The Brightleaf District — This recently redeveloped area combines Durham’s storied past with its exciting future; you can enjoy history, architecture, fine dining, shopping, and more when you visit this popular place. Once the location for Durham’s tobacco industry, you can walk the cobblestone streets and find high-end specialty shops, art galleries, and breweries.
  • Museum of Life and Science — This 84-acre museum is one of Durham’s top family destinations. Just blocks from downtown, this interactive science park houses a large butterfly conservatory, outdoor exhibits with black bears, lemurs, red wolves, and a dinosaur trail. You can see over 60 species of live animals, visit the Ellerbe Creek Railway, and enjoy Hideaway Woods.
  • Durham Bulls baseball — If you love baseball, you can watch the Durham Bulls play at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. This Minor League team is a Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. You won’t find a better way to spend an afternoon or evening than at this location. Durham Bulls Athletic Park has been open to fans since 1995.

5 Tips to Finding a Cosmetic Dentist

If you’re tired of your cracked, broken, chipped, misaligned, or discolored teeth, I invite you to make an appointment for a cosmetic consultation. During this time, I’ll listen to your smile goals and make treatment recommendations according to your budget and timeline.

Then, we can form a treatment plan and get started on your new smile! Here are some things to consider when looking for a cosmetic dentist:

  1. Ask for recommendations — Ask your neighbors and coworkers who they recommend for cosmetic dental treatments. If you get a personal recommendation from someone, you’ll be happy with the outcome. Plus, it’s a great way to meet new people in Durham.
  2. Investigate services — Once you get some personal recommendations, I encourage you to use the internet to investigate each dentist's cosmetic services. Check to see if they provide all the treatments you want. My dental office offers professional teeth whitening, dental bonding, porcelain veneers, dental crowns, orthodontics, and complete smile makeovers.
  3. Read reviews — Another excellent way to find the best cosmetic dentist for your smile is to read online reviews. You can learn a great deal about a dentist’s demeanor, personality, and expertise by reading what actual patients have to say about their experiences and cosmetic results.
  4. Check insurance coverage and other details — Before making a final decision, ensure any prospective cosmetic dentist accepts your dental insurance. You should also check where their office is located and whether they are open during convenient times.
  5. Schedule a visit — After you’ve narrowed your list to the top two or three candidates, I recommend scheduling a visit to get a sense of the office culture and each dentist’s personality. I love meeting and getting to know prospective patients!
